Mont Alto sweeps Scranton

Mont Alto sweeps Scranton

The Mont Alto ladies softball team hosted a double header with conference opponent Penn State Scranton on Thursday.  The first game saw Mont Alto score 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and never looked back.  Mont Alto's Sharielle Wray had a 3 RBI single in the 3rd to give Mont Alto another 5 run inning, and would score another 3 in the 4th to seal the deal.  Mont Alto ended the game early due to the mercy rule with a final in 4 ½ innings of 16-2.

Jessica Miller would get the win for Mont Alto, pitching the entire 5 innings with 6 K's.  Scranton's Shannon Thomas got the loss giving up 8 hits, but with not much help from her field as they committed 9 errors.

The final game of the double header would bring Shannon Thomas to the mound once again, and Kieara Fleagle for Mont Alto.  The mercy rule would come into play this game as well.  Fleagle would hold Scranton to 0 runs in 5 innings worth of work, giving up only 3 hits, and striking out 5.

Jessica Miller would contribute with her bat this game instead of on the mound as she took one out of the park in the bottom of the 1st for a 2 RBI shot.  Miller would end the game with 3 RBIs, and Mackenzie Trafka would put her bat to work as well legging out a triple.  Mont Alto would go on to win the game 10-0, and improve their record to 11-1.

Mont Alto will host a double header on April 12th against Frederick Community College at 3:00 pm.
