Mont Alto Wins First Game at PSUAC Tournament

The #2 seeded Mont Alto Women's Softball team kicked off the 2012 PSUAC Playoffs today against PSU New Kensington (#3) at hosting Beaver (#1).  Mont Alto's starting pitcher Jessica Miller started off hot with 2 quick strikeouts.  It took a while for either team to get any offense going, but Mont Alto finally hit the score board first with an RBI single from center fielder Helena DeShong.  The very next inning however, New Kensington would score on a couple of hits themselves to tie it up at 1 apiece.

In the bottom of the 6th the Mont Alto bats came alive with 2 girls on.  Third baseman Jami Ross hit a line shot into the outfield to score 2 runs to put her team up 3-1.  A later contested call at the plate with pinch runner Sara Rebar, caused a missed run opportunity for Mont Alto. Before the inning was over they would score another one to go into the top of the 7th with a 4-1 lead.

Miller took care of the first 2 with a pair of strikeouts, and a pop fly gave Mont Alto the 3rd out to end the game with a first round win.  Miller had a total of 8 K's, and allowed only 4 hits.
