Softball takes two wins from Fayette

 

Penn State Mont Alto softball team swept Penn State Fayette in a double-header at home on Sunday afternoon.  Mont Alto won 5-2 in the first game and took the second game 16-6 in five innings.

 

In game one, Mont Alto and Fayette were tied 1-1 after the first inning.  It wasn't until the second inning that Fayette took the lead by one in the top of the third.  But Mont Alto answered right back in the bottom of the same inning adding three unanswered runs and another insurance run in the sixth.

 

Freshman pitcher, Jenna Rhodes, was on the mound for Mont Alto.  She pitched seven innings allowing two earned runs on three hits.  She struck out eight batters.

 

Mackenzie Trafka was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, triple and two RBIs.  Mont Alto recorded seven hits.

 

 

In game two, Mont Alto set the tempo in the first inning, scoring nine runs on seven hits.  They added another seven runs in the third.  They finished the game in five innings.

 

Rhodes pitched the first three innings, allowing 5 earned runs on seven hits.  Rhodes was 3 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs.  Kristyan Gates finished the last two innings on the mound, allowing four hits and one earned run.

 

Diamond Byers hit two doubles and was 4 for 4.  She recorded six RBIs.  Helena DeShong was also for 3 for 3. 

 

 

Penn State Mont Alto returns to action on Monday at home against Penn State Beaver at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
