Mont Alto sweeps Schuylkill

Mont Alto sweeps Schuylkill

Penn State Mont Alto's regular season softball games are almost over and Mont Alto knows what they need to do to finish at the top of the division, Win.  They did just that yesterday against Penn State Schuylkill.  Mont Alto swept the series with an 8-0 victory and a very close 4-3 second game.

Jenna Rhodes was on the mound for Mont Alto the first game for all six innings.  She only allowed one hit and had eight strikeouts.  Rhodes was also stellar at the plate where she was two for three with one RBI.

Alicia Morgan was also two for three.  She hit her first homerun of the season while also driving in four RBI's.

In the second game, Schuylkill kept it close.  Kristyan Gates was on the mound for Mont Alto for the first 5.2 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits.  Mont Alto committed a couple errors in the sixth and seventh innings to allow Schuylkill to score all three of their runs.

Mont Alto then took advantage of Schuylkill's errors in the seventh to bring in two runs to end the game.  Diamond Byers, who hit a homerun earlier in the game, started the seventh inning with a leadoff triple.  She then continued to home plate to score the tying run after Schuylkill made an error.  Gates then reached on an error before getting out on a fielder's choice.  With Jami Ross on first base, Kaylah Younker came in to pinch run for her.  While Sharielle Wray was up to bat, Younker stole second base.  Then moments later, Wray smacked the game winning RBI single to score Younker.

Mont Alto sits at the top of the PSUAC conference going into the last couple conference series.
