Softball wins big against Scranton

Mont Alto Women's Softball team had a double-header on Wednesday April 9th against Penn Worthington Scranton.

 

Mont Alto began the game scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

 

The score going into the second was 4-0, Mont Alto leading the way.  In the second inning Mont Alto put four more runs on the board increasing the lead to eight.

 

Mont Alto played outstanding defense, they did not allow Penn State Worthington Scranton to score until the top of the fourth inning.

 

Scranton went 4-20 at the plate with only two runs in the first game.  Mont Alto swung over fifty percent at bat, going 14-27 with 19 Runs, 17 RBI's and no strikeouts.

 

Brooke Porter (Shippensburg, PA) was impressive on offense, going 4-4 with four runs and four RBI's.  She also hit a homerun in this game as well as a double.  Sarah Bortner (Glenville, PA) went 2-3 at bat also having a double with four RBI's and scoring two runs. Senior Chelsea Pittman (Mont Alto, PA) went 2-3 at bat with three RBI's.  Mariah Yingling (Waynesboro, PA) was 2-3 with three runs and one RBI.  

 

By the bottom of the fourth Mont Alto had a commanding lead of 19-2, forcing Penn State Worthington- Scranton into the mercy rule.

 

The second game was no different from the first; Mont Alto had mercy rule against Worthington Scranton yet again.  The final score of the second game was 10-0, Mont Alto allowing no runs for the opposing team.

 

Porter again had a stellar game batting; she went 2-2 with two RBI's and two runs.  Bortner went 1-1 at the plate with one RBI and one run.

 

Worthington Scranton was unable to capitalize and even out the game against Mont Alto. They swung 1-16 at bat while also being struck out ten times by Mont Alto's pitcher Sarah Bortner.

 

Mont Alto picked up two more conference wins and remain undefeated in the PSUAC.
