Softball brings home two wins against Brandywine

Mont Alto Softball team traveled to Brandywine on April 17th to play a double-header against Brandywine.

 

In the first inning of play Mont Alto took a 1-0 lead over Brandywine.

 

Mont Alto started batting and fielding well, scoring four runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and two in the seventh.  As a collaborative team effort, Mont Alto was 17-34 at bat, scoring 10 runs off of eight RBI's.

 

Liviana Rocco (Reading, PA) was phenomenal at bat hitting 4-4 with two runs and one RBI. Diamond Byers (Greencastle, PA) was stellar going 4-5 at bat with three RBI's and one run. Mariah Yingling (Waynesboro, PA) was impressive, going 3-3 at bat with two RBI's while scoring a run.  Brianna Glatz (Carlisle, PA) hit 2-3, scored three runs and one RBI.

 

Sarah Bortner (Glenville, PA) pitched a great game, facing 36 batters while striking out 15.  Bortner pitched seven innings, allowed seven hits, two runs and walked seven.

 

 

Mont Alto played strong offense and defense, beating Brandywine 10-2 in the first game.

 

The second game Mont Alto switched out pitchers replacing Bortner with Samantha Gladhill (Cascasde, MD).  Gladhill pitched a great game having four strikeouts and did not allow Brandywine any runs until the sixth inning.

 

Mont Alto scored first at the top of the first taking the lead all the way until the 6th inning.  At the top of the 6th Mont Alto scored four runs increasing their lead to five.

 

In the sixth inning, Brandywine scored one run but was unable to catch up to Mont Alto.

 

 

Gladhill started the second game pitching for Mont Alto and earned the win for Mont Alto.  Gladhill pitched 5.1 innings, allowed five hits, one run, walked three and struck out four.  Borther finished the game, pitching the last 1.2 innings, allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and struck out five.

 

 

The final score of the game was 5-1.  Mont Alto brought home two PSUAC Conference wins.
