PSU Beaver Takes Two from the Softball Team

Mont Alto, Pa. – After splitting a weekend series with PSU Fayette, the Penn State Mont Alto softball team dropped a pair of home games to Penn State Beaver on Thursday. The Lions mustered six hits in the first game, but fell 8-1. Penn State Beaver took the momentum into game two, jumping out to an 8-1 lead and starving off a Mont Alto comeback to win 11-2. Penn State Mont Alto falls to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the PSUAC.

In game one, both teams were unable to score a run until the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Cassidy Feaser was cruising right along until she gave up a two-out RBI single to Lacey Weible. PSU Beaver made it 3-0 in the top of the sixth scoring a pair of runs. Mont Alto cut into the deficit in the bottom of the inning as Alexandra Zombro led off the inning with a single and scored a batter later when Alyssa Munns ripped a RBI double to left field that made it 3-1. However, Penn State Beaver added five more insurance runs in seventh inning.

Zombro and Kaitlyn Whiteaker each notched a pair of hits in game one to lead Mont Alto. Whitaker slashed a double in the bottom of the second inning and currently leads the team in batting average at .412.

PSU Beaver jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two when Jenna Petrucci singled to center field plating home a pair of unearned runs. Mont Alto responded in the bottom half of the frame when Kayla Carbaugh ripped the ball right back up the middle, which drove in teammate Krista Feaser to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Penn State Beaver made it 3-1 in the top of the second after a Vanessa Jackson RBI single. The Lions added to their lead in the fourth inning scoring a pair. They also scored three more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings'.

PSU Mont Alto blasted its first home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth. Krista Feaser hit her second career homerun to straightaway centerfield, which gave the Lions their final score of the afternoon. Feaser went 2-for-3 and scored both of Mont Alto's runs.

Penn State Mont Alto returns to action Saturday, April 1 when it travels to PSU Beaver to wrap up its season series with its crosstown rivals. Game times are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
