Mont Alto Softball Rolls in Season-Opener with Sweep over Trinity Washington

WASHINGTON, DC – The Penn State Mont Alto softball team routed Trinity Washington University with the Lions getting the 2018 campaign started Saturday afternoon. PSUMA rolled to a 24-0, three-inning victory over Trinity and completed the sweep with a 21-0 road win.

  • Mont Alto swung hot bats from the get-go scoring 13 runs in the first inning.
  • PSUMA had 14 hits with Abby Ebersole (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area), Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring), Dara Murray (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim), and Helayna Stanko (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) each racking up at least two hits as each player on Mont Alto reached base in the win.
  • Cassidy Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle School) was lights out in the circle tossing a no-hitter and would have had a perfect game if not for a walk to the first hitter of the game. The senior also managed five strikeouts.
  • PSUMA added two runs in the second inning and exploded for nine in the top of the third inning.
  • Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) went 4-for-4 with a game-high six RBIs and was a home run away from hitting for the cycle.

  • Mont Alto no-hit the home team once again in the nightcap with Mackenzie Brymesser (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) doing the honors in her first collegiate start. The sophomore also missed seven Trinity Washington bats.
  • PSUMA balanced the scoring with five runs in the first and third innings, but an 11-run second inning was powered by four doubles and a triple.
  • Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) and Samantha Updegraff (Etters, Pa. / Red Land) each went 3-for-3 at the plate.  Sydney Binner (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / St. Lucie West Centennial) also had three hits.
  • Tabetha McIe (Baltimore, Md. / Patapsco) and Wagner each drove in four runs, with eight different Lions bagging an RBI.
  • Mont alto hit .633 as a team in the two-game sweep.

The Mont Alto (2-0) softball team returns to action on Tuesday in its home opener against Christendom College. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader to begin at 2 p.m.
