MONT ALTO, Pa. – With the season less than two months away, the Penn State Mont Alto softball team announced their 2020 regular season schedule. PSUMA missed out on qualifying for the 2019 PSUAC Tournament with an 8-26 overall record but have brought in eight newcomers that are expected to make an immediate impact.
The 2020 schedule features 34 regular season games, including hosting Corning Community College in the season-opening doubleheader for the first-time in program history. The Nittany Lions will have five home and away doubleheaders with their PSUAC West competition while also playing six non-conference opponents.
PSUMA will host the Barons of Corning Community College for the first-ever meeting on March 7. Non-conference matchups will continue with another home doubleheader against Christendom (March 18) before opening conference play against PSU Greater Allegheny on Friday, March 20. They travel to Greater Allegheny a day later before embarking on a home-and-away series with Penn State Beaver on March 27-28.
Mont Alto closes out the month with a non-conference home doubleheader with Penn State Hazleton before hosting Kent State Tuscarawas for a twin-bill on April 4. Other key matchups with April include doubleheaders against Christendom on April 7 and Trinity Washington University on April 13 as well as a four-game series against PSUAC runner-up's Penn State DuBois. The Nittany Lions close out the regular season on Saturday, April 25 with home contests against PSU Fayette.
PSUAC playoffs will take place May 1-3 and the USCAA Small College World Series will once again be in DuBois, Pa. at Heindl Field beginning on May 10 with the championship game slated for May 14.
