Mont Alto Softball Rolling with Two More Wins

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto softball team won a pair of home games on Friday afternoon over PSU Fayette to improve to 5-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the PSUAC West. The Nittany Lions crushed the ball early and often to pick up the 13-1 win in the first came and exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning of the nightcap for the 10-3 comeback victory.

Penn State Mont Alto 13, Penn State Fayette 1 (F-4 innings)

  • PSUMA got things going in the bottom half of the first inning building a 4-0 advantage McKenna Sas (Canyon County, Calif. / Canyon County), Destiny Hall (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) and Chelsea Cover (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) each delivered with an RBI within the inning.
  • Sas drove in Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) in the second inning with Mont Alto exploding for eight runs in the bottom of the third frame. Overall, PSUMA had eight hits within the inning including two-straight bases clearing doubles from Leah Blount (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) and Emily Sicinski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster).
  • Reigning PSUAC Pitcher of the Week Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) spun the ball well in the pitching circle spreading five hits across four innings of work. The lone PSU Fayette run scored in the top of the fourth on an RBI double.

Penn State Mont Alto 10, Penn State Fayette 3 (F)

  • Although the final score doesn't reflect it, the second game of the doubleheader was much more competitive with Fayette building and maintaining a 3-1 lead. The visitors maintained its advantage until Mont Alto plated home eight runs in the fifth inning.
  • The inning began with a Wagner walk and she scored on a Sas single to center field. A highlight within the inning was an opposite field triple off the bate of Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) that drove in two more Nittany Lions.
  • Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring), Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford), McKenna Sas (Canyon County, Calif. / Canyon County), and Skye Herring (Pine Grove, Pa. / Pine Grove Area) each put together two-RBI performances. Herring went 2-for-4 at the dish getting the start at third base.

Penn State Mont Alto will now travel to Fayette on Saturday for a road doubleheader. Game times are slated for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
