DuBois, Pa. - The Penn State Mont Alto softball team opened up the second round of the PSUAC Tournament on Saturday and fell to the No. 2 seed in the PSUAC East, Penn State DuBois by a 16-8 score. Both teams dealt with the challenging elements of both the cold and rain in DuBois as Mont Alto now will have to win out in order to be crowned PSUAC champions.

Penn State DuBois jumped on the PSUMA starter Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) in the first inning scoring four runs and then added another four in the top of the second inning. DuBois who was the away team capitalized on several fielding miscues within both innings to jump out to the 8-0 advantage.

Mont Alto clawed across a run in the bottom of the second frame with a Skye Herring (Pine Grove, Pa. / Pine Grove Area) RBI single. DuBois scored two more runs in the fourth inning before a scoring party occurred in the fifth frame. They scored six runs in the top of the inning to go up 16-1, but Mont Alto showed their resiliency plating seven runs. Although it was a little too late highlights within the inning included an RBI single to right field off the bat of Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) as well as a two-RBI double from Emily Sicincki (Westminster, Md. / Westminster).

Emily Bittinger (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) was solid in relief striking out one opponent in 3.1 innings of work.

Penn State Mont Alto will play the loser of PSU Brandywine/PSU New Kensington game in a win or go home situation on Monday at 12:30 p.m. The rain turned into snow on Sunday, which pushed all games back to Monday and Tuesday, if necessary.
