Softball gets season started in Myrtle Beach

The Penn State Mont Alto softball team completed its first two games of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic held in Myrtle Beach, SC on Sunday. The team lost to Kaskaskia 23-0 in five innings. They later faced Carolina University, losing 13-5 in six innings on Sunday afternoon.

 

Game 1: Kaskaskia 23, Penn State Mont Alto 0

Kaskaskia set the tone from the start with 17 first inning runs on timely hits and Penn State Mont Alto miscues. Jaylin Belton led Penn State Mont Alto reaching base in one of her two plate appearances. Katie McClausin went 3.2 innings in the circle, striking out three batters. Kaskaskia registered 20 hits in the winning effort

 

Game 2: Carolina University 13, Penn State Mont Alto 5

Penn State Mont Alto got on the board first when Destiny Hall scored MacKenzie Stake on a double.

 

Carolina University scored four runs in the third inning. Emma Dantzler got the rally started with a single, Riley Hope and Maggie Smith later reached base. Makinzie Brown scored two on a double later in the inning.

 

Penn State Mont Alto recorded three consecutive doubles in the 3rd on hits by Destiny Hall, McKenna Sas, and Skye Herring. The game was tied 4-4 after three innings. 

 

Carolina University registered seven runs in the fourth inning on eight hits to take a 11-4 advantage.
