Softball drops two to Penn State Schuylkill

Game 1: Penn State Schuylkill 8, Penn State Mont Alto 1

Game Story

Penn State Mont Alto dropped the opening game of their PSUAC doubleheader against Penn State Schuylkill 8-1 on Saturday afternoon. Kirsten Dell led the offensive effort for Penn State Mont Alto with a 3 for 4 day at the dish. Emily Sicinski started off the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff walk. Dell scored Sicinski on a double, giving Penn State Mont Alto a 1-0 advantage. The first inning lead would be the last for Penn State Mont Alto as Penn State Schuylkill scored eight runs over the next six innings. Caitlyn Goggin recorded 3 RBI's total in the second and fourth innings to put the visitors up 3-1. Meghan Stokes plated Melanie Torrales on a RBI single, giving Penn State Schuylkill a 4-1 lead after four innings. Torrales also recorded a two RBI single in the top of the 7th. Alyssa Gerber doubled in the top of the seventh inning, giving Penn State Schuylkill their final run of game one with an 8-1 advantage. Sierra Santarsiero pitched a complete game for Penn State Schuylkill, striking out five in seven innings.

Game Story

Penn State Mont Alto was shutout in game two of the doubleheader, mustering only five hits. Penn State Schuylkill was able to put together five runs in the top of the sixth inning on four hits to provide separation. Penn State Schuylkill's Kaely Walshaw pitched a complete game, striking out six. She also went 3 for 4 at the plate accumulating two RBI's. Brooklyn Miller paced the Penn State Mont Alto offense with a 2 for 3 game. Alyssa Gerber plated Meghan Stokes in the opening inning on a single. Cealinn McGroarty started the sixth inning rally by reaching via error for Penn State Schuylkill. Caitlyn Goggin plated Emily Maher on a RBI single, pushing the lead to 4-0. Kaely Walshaw provided the big insurance in the inning on a RBI single, plating Stokes and Groggin. Penn State Schuylkill recorded 14 hits in the winning effort. Katie McCauslin got the start in the circle for Penn State Mont Alto, going five innings and allowing five earned runs. MacKenzie Stake came on in relief, striking out five batters in two innings.
