Softball splits with Hazleton

Game One: Penn State Hazleton 3, Penn State Mont Alto 1

 

Kirsten Dell, Destiny Hall and Sierra Sims each recorded two hits as Penn State Mont Alto was on the losing side of game one of their doubleheader with Penn State Hazleton, losing the first game 3-1. 

 

Penn State Hazleton scored in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Taylor D'Attilio. Both team's offenses were stymied until the sixth as a pitching duel ensued between Paige Parisi and Mont Alto's Delaney Glazer. Mont Alto tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Abigail Cunningham scored following a Sierra Sims double with nobody out in the inning. 

 

Hazleton rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring on back-to-back singles from Macy Schnatter and Jess Lepore. Hazleton took a 3-1 lead to the bottom half of the seventh inning. Mont Alto stranded Delaney Glazer, who recorded a double on the first batter in the bottom of the seventh to drop the first game.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 12, Penn State Hazleton 1 (F/5)

 

Mont Alto quickly responded in the second game after Hazleton scored in the top of the first. The team responded for 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning on nine hits and two Hazleton errors. 

 

Kirsten Dell recorded a RBI single in the inning and Destiny Hall hit two doubles as Mont Alto sent 18 batters to the plate in the inning. Mont Alto added more insurance runs in the bottom of the third inning, scoring runs on back-to-back RBI hits from Emily Sicinski and Sierra Sims.

 

Kirsten Dell picked up her fifth win of the season as she went five innings and struck out three batters.
