Softball loses opening round of USCAA Tournament to Salem University

USCAA Small College World Series: Salem University 7, Penn State Mont Alto 3

 

Penn State Mont Alto faced off against Salem University on Monday afternoon in DuBois, Pennsylvania for the opening game of the USCAA Small College World Series. Salem rallied late to send Mont Alto into the loser's bracket, defeating Mont Alto 7-3.

 

Delaney Glazer got the scoring started in the top of the third inning as she scored Sierra Sims on a single to right field. Mont Alto would extend its early lead to 2-0 when Skye Herring drove in Emily Sicinski on a RBI single to center field.

 

Salem cut into the deficit when Mackenzie Ringer recorded a RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth inning. Heading into the fifth inning, Mont Alto led 2-1. 

 

Meladie Larance started the two out rally for Salem in the bottom of the fifth inning when she doubled down the right field line to get into scoring position. The next five batters would reach base for Salem as they took the lead and extended it to 4-2 on a Meesha Arroyo two RBI base hit up the middle.

 

Skye Herring recorded her second RBI hit in the next inning as she scored Sierra Sims on a single to center field. Mont Alto trailed 6-3 after five and a half innings. Salem would score an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning to lead 7-3. Meesha Arroyo would retire the last three batters in the top of the seventh inning following a Delaney Glazer single to lead off the seventh to force Mont Alto into the loser's bracket.
