Mont Alto Women drop to Scranton in overtime

Mont Alto Women drop to Scranton in overtime

Penn State Mont Alto's Women's Basketball team had another tough overtime loss in PSUAC action this weekend.  They dropped a close game to Penn State Worthington-Scranton, 60-55.

Mont Alto and Scranton kept a close game the entire 40 minutes.  Mont Alto had the lead at halftime, 30-27.  In the first half of play, Mont Alto scored nine unanswered points to maintain the lead.  Ayanna Hall had nine points in the first 20 minutes.

Both teams came out of the locker rooms after halftime looking for a win.  Mont Alto scored six points before Scranton was able to get on the board in the second half.  The last five minutes of the game were very exciting, with each team taking turns scoring and taking the lead.  It came down to the final minute when Scranton hit a free throw to tie the game.  Neither of the teams were able to score before the buzzer and the game was sent into overtime.

Scranton took control in the extra minutes and finished with the victory on their home court.

"We got the shots we were looking for in our offense but didn't convert some easy ones in the second half, only shooting 28% from the field," commented Head Coach Donna Davis. "Our foul shooting was a big difference as well only converting half the opportunities we had."

Mont Alto was led by Alexis Small who posted another double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  Hall finished the game with 13 points and Alicia Detwiler added 12.

"Overall, I was pleased with the continued hard work at practice and effort on the court.  We've fallen short in two overtime games this year.  We just have to keep working and that will change."

Mont Alto returns to action Monday, January 28th at Penn State Du Bois with start time scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
