Mont Alto women defeat Du Bois, 78-70

Penn State Mont Alto Women's Basketball team had an exciting win on the road last night.  After being down at halftime, Mont Alto came back to win 78-70 against Penn State
Du Bois.

Mont Alto's record might not be the best in the conference but it doesn't show the effort and hard work that the women's team has put forth this season.  With losing many close games, last night's win was just what they needed. After being down by two points at halftime before leading majority of the first half, Mont Alto came out of the locker room ready for the second twenty minutes.

It was not until 10 minutes left in the game when Mont Alto was able to regain the lead but this time they did not let Du Bois back in it.  Aaliyah Daniels hit two free throws to tie the game and Helena DeShong made a layup to take the lead.  Mont Alto finished the game strong and earned their third win of the season.

There were five Mont Alto players who scored in double figure.  Alexis Small posted her 9th double-double of the season.  Ayanna Hall led the team with 20 points while also posting a double-double.  This was her 7th game scoring in double figures.

"Aaliyah had a big game tonight.  Adding to her 17 points she pulled down nine boards, four steals and hit some key free throws shooting 70% from the line. She really elevated her game and made good solid decisions with the ball setting her teammates in positions they could be successful and it paid off," commented Head Coach Donna Davis. "Helena Deshong had a big offensive night shooting 66% from the field and 75% from the free throw line."

"This was a tremendous team effort.  I knew we could compete with the best, we just had to put two halves together with everyone playing strong and contributing.  Second half we kept attacking the basket, got to the line and shot 74% to seal the win."

Penn State Mont Alto Women travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny Saturday, February 2nd.
