Women's Basketball steals a win from Central Penn

Penn State Mont Alto Women's Basketball team had another intense game on Wednesday night against Central Penn.  With the game tied after 40 minutes of play, overtime started and Mont Alto was able to come out with the win.  Mont Alto beat Central Penn 102-98.

Central Penn went into halftime with a two point lead but Mont Alto was able to come back in the second half and fight hard to tie it up.  Mont Alto had a large lead but Central Penn cut the lead and made it a close game right up until the end.

"We were able to pull together in the absence of Alexis Small to get a hard-fought victory.  Ashley Madison and Megan Dougherty led the way offensively for us," commented Head Coach Paul Lundy.

"We showed tremendous poise down the stretch despite blowing a large lead.  We continue to execute well in the closing minutes of games.  We shot over 80% from the free throw line which made a huge difference for us.  Cutting down on our turnovers really keyed our victory and allowed us to be in a much better flow on offense all night," Coach Lundy adds.

Mont Alto was led by Megan Dougherty (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) who had 24 points while Ashley Madison (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) scored 21 points and contributed 14 assists.  Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds.

"Shaffer She filled in quite well for the injured Alexis Small, who will miss some time due to a knee sprain.  We put six players in double-digit scoring which allowed us to have great balance on the floor and made us very hard to defend," Coach Lundy comments.

Mont Alto's next game will be at home on Saturday December 7th at 10:00 a.m. against Hazleton.
