Women’s Basketball Outlasted at Hazleton

HAZLETON, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto women's basketball team just weren't able to hit enough shots in their final game of the 2017-18 season falling victim to PSU Hazleton on the road by a 77-63 score in Penn State University Athletic Conference action.

Inside the Box Score

  • Senior Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Pa. / South Hagerstown) finished with her 14th double-double of the season leading the team with 17 points and 18 boards, which included 12 offensive rebounds.
  • Julianne Noveras (Gaithersburg, Md. / Gaithersburg) hit 5-of-10 field goals on her way to 14 points. Backcourt mate Karley Coleman (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic) chipped in 16 points and had five rebounds.
  • Charity Miller (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan) also notched a double-double for PSUMA with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She also had eight assists and seven steals in an active 38 minutes on the court.

How it Happened

  • Penn State Hazleton led from start to finish holding PSUMA to a rough first quarter with only four made field goals.
  • Mont Alto came out of the gates cold from the field as it finished shooting a 29.3 percent clip and hit upon just one three-pointer shooting a season-low 6.3 percent from downtown.
  • PSUMA trailed 40-22 at halftime.
  • To start the second half, Penn State Mont Alto cut the deficit to 12 thanks to a pair of jumpers from Charity Miller and Karley Coleman. However, Hazleton responded building its largest lead of the game within the third quarter at 20 points with just over five minutes to go.
  • Julianne Noveras (Gaithersburg, Md. / Gaithersburg) had an outstanding fourth quarter scoring 12 of her 14 points within the period.

Notes

  • Penn State Hazleton was led by McKenzie Prutsman who poured in 42 points. Shelby Berger and Mekenzie Wolfe also finished in double figures with 12 points apiece.
  • Penn State Mont Alto concluded the 2017-18 season with a 5-18 overall record. The team won a pair of PSUAC games this season against Fayette and Greater Allegheny
  • Senior forward Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Pa. / South Hagerstown) finishes her illustrious career with 791 points and 702 rebounds. Her averages of 15.2 points per game and 13.8 rebounds per game each represented career-highs.
