Colette Salyers and Kirsten Dell combined for 12 of Penn State Mont Alto's 18 fourth quarter points, propelling the Nittany Lions to a 44-41 conference win over Penn State New Kensington on Saturday afternoon. Salyers scored a team-leading 11 points and Autumn Fischer scored ten for Mont Alto, pacing the offense.
Destiny Batiste scored 14 points to lead the way for Penn State New Kensington as Esther Cole and Najah Perryman each tallied 12.
Penn State Mont Alto paced out to an early 10-9 lead after the first quarter, before only scoring four points in the second quarter after shooting just 2 of 16 from the floor in the quarter. Penn State New Kensington took an 18-14 lead into the break with both teams struggling on the offensive end.
Shanez Morales converted off an Autumn Fischer steal late in the third quarter to cut the New Kensington lead to just 28-26 with one quarter to play.
Penn State New Kensington hung onto the lead late into the fourth quarter until Autumn Fischer and Colette Salyers each converted on jump shots to put Penn State Mont Alto in the lead, winning 37-36 with three minutes remaining. Mont Alto would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game, picking up its third conference win on the season.
