Salyers scores 15 as Mont Alto comes up just short against DuBois 49-48

Colette Salyers led all of the Mont Alto scorers with a team-high 15 points on 5 of 16 shooting as both teams played a tightly contested game which went down to the final possession. Frances Milliron was the top scorer for DuBois as she compiled 16 points in 36 minutes.

 

Both teams started the game out cold with Mont Alto shooting 21.4% and DuBois shooting 26.7%. Mont Alto had four players each score baskets in the early going and DuBois was led by Megan Durandetta who scored four points in the opening quarter. Mont Alto turned a 11-11 tie into a three point advantage as Salyers converted on a jump shot and a free throw to push Mont Alto head 14-11 with 7:10 remaining in the second quarter. DuBois tied the game minutes later at 16-16 and pushed the lead to four at 22-18 following a Hayley Matter jump shot. Aspyn Keetch made a three point basket in the final seconds as DuBois led 22-21 at the half.

 

Mont Alto took early advantage in the third quarter as Kyah Rucker converted on back-to-back jump shots as Mont Alto led 29-24 with four minutes remaining in the third. Shannon Shaw responded for DuBois to tie the game at 31-31 entering the fourth quarter. 

 

Mont Alto found itself trailing 39-33 early in the fourth quarter as DuBois went on a 6-2 run before Rucker made a three point basket. With a minute remaining, Salyers went to the free throw line and converted on a pair of free throws as Mont Alto led 45-42. Sarah Huston made a pair of free throws for DuBois to lead 48-45. On the game's next possession, Salyers converted on an and one to tie the game at 48-48. Following a Meagan Smith blocking foul with six seconds left, Milliron went to the line for two shots for DuBois. She would miss the first and convert on the second to give DuBois a 49-48 lead.

 

On the following possession, Salyers drove in the lane and missed her shot following a spin move in the lane. Mont Alto fell to DuBois by a final of 49-48.
