Nittany Lions lose final home tilt of the season

Christendom 53, Penn State Mont Alto 40

 

Autumn Fischer scored a team-high 12 points for Mont Alto during Saturday's non-conference to Christendom by a final of 53-40. Saturday marked the final home game for graduate Aspyn Keetch and seniors Kyah Rucker, Meagan Smith and Colette Salyers.

 

Christendom raced out to an early advantage following the first quarter of play, shooting 58% from the field including three three-pointers. Rucker and Keetch each made a three-point basket for Mont Alto in the opening period. Miranda Keller and Catherine Thomas combined for 15 of Christendom's 23 points in the first quarter.

 

Kate Walz and Regina Cousino each made a three in the final two possessions of the half as Christendom extended their lead to 20 at the half, leading the Nittany Lions 36-16.

 

Down 46-20 late in the third quarter, Mont Alto was able to chip into the lead with a run of their own. Kyah Rucker made a three and Fischer converted a pair of free throws. On the final possession of the third quarter, Brooklyn Merryman dribbled left to the top of the key and banked in a three point attempt as time expired. Mont Alto trailed 47-28 after three.

 

Mont Alto turned up the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter, limiting the Crusaders to only one field goal in the fourth quarter. Christendom shot 1 for 17 in the fourth and Mont Alto shot 6 of 14, outscoring the opposition 12-6 in the fourth.
