Penn State Mont Alto has announced Wrestling is returning to the campus after a 35-year absence. Mont Alto Athletics decided to join the six other campuses in the PSUAC that have also added wrestling to their varsity sports. Penn State Dubois was the first to start the program two years ago. After Dubois made the move, Penn State New Kensington, Penn College, Penn State Beaver, Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Fayette and Penn State Mont Alto all also added wrestling. After research, Mont Alto Athletics found that Wrestling is very popular in Pennsylvania with hundreds of recruiting possibilities which will give wrestlers more opportunities to compete at the collegiate level.
Mont Alto is proud to announce the new head coach, Bruce Kocsis. Kocsis is an Ohio native and a graduated from Lindenwood University Summa Cum Laude and spent eight years in the Marine Corps. He wrestled competitively for ten years and while traveling around the world with the Marine Corps he learned different techniques from many different wrestlers and coaches. Kocsis found himself involved in coaching his children in elementary school. He has more than 15 years of coaching experience and his coaching philosophies are to know where you are and know where you want to be. Once you know this then you can put things into place to make sure you achieve your ultimate goal. He plans to teach our young athletes to be the best they can be through hard work and dedication on and off the mats. Along with the support of the athletic department, Coach Koscis has goals for his athletes to have a competitive season and spread the word of Wrestling at Mont Alto through clinics, camps and tournaments.
Mont Alto will begin competing in January 2012. The first match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday January 7th at Beaver.
