Wrestling places 2nd at NCWA Qualifiers and Eight make NCWA Championships

Penn State Mont Alto Wrestlers were on a mission on Saturday at the NCWA Mid-East Conference Championships at Penn College.  Their goal was to qualify for the NCWA Championships held in Allen, Texas.

Mont Alto placed second overall in the tournament after the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.  However, out of the 12 wrestlers that attended for Mont Alto, eight of them are headed to the tournament in Texas.   In order for an individual to make it to The NCWA Championships, one must place in the top five in their weight class.  Jimmy Hughes (Chambersburg, PA) placed first overall in his 133 lbs. weight class, while his teammate Daniel May (Biglerville, PA) placed fourth in the same weight class.  Cody Carbaugh (Greencastle, PA) who wrestled in the 125 lbs. weight class placed fifth overall.  Tyler Warner (Waynesboro, PA) and Nick Grimm Lewistown, PA) wrestled in the 149 lbs. weight class and they finished third and fifth.  Clay Kocsis (Gettysburg, PA) was able to make it to the final round in the 165 lbs. weight class and compete for the championship. Unfortunately, he was unable to come away with first place but he was named runner-up.  Alec Warner (Littlestown, PA) also came in second place for his 184 lbs. weight class.  In the 285 lbs. weight class, Jaron Burke (Reading, PA) also placed second overall.  These are the eight wrestlers that will be heading to Texas.

Unfortunately, three of the wrestlers that did not make the championships all just missed qualifying by one place, they all placed 6th.  Andrew Mellot (Carlisle, PA) competed in the 141 lbs. weight class, Diantra Landry (Hagerstown, MD) wrestled in the 157 lbs. weight class and Rayem Ali (Silver Spring, MD) was in the 235 lbs. weight class.  JB Holden (State College, PA) finished 7th in the 141 lbs. weight class.

The team will head to Allen, Texas on Wednesday March 12th-March 15th for the NCWA Championships.
