Wrestling Wraps Up Successful Weekend

Mont Alto, Pa. - The Penn State Mont Alto wrestling team had several impressive finishes at the PSUAC/USCAA Championships on Saturday and the team finished its weekend by topping Pitt-Bradford 48-18 at the Multipurpose Activities Center.

The Lions had five wrestlers place at the PSUAC/USCAA Championship tournament highlighted by Clay Kocsis winning the 174-pound weight class. Kocsis became a three-time champion of the division. Alex Gallaher earned a fourth place finish in the 149-pound weight class, Grant Shughart (157) and Brandon Jackson (141) each placed fifth and Jared Adam earned a sixth place finish in the 174-pound weight class. The team came up just short of a PSUAC Championship finishing second behind Penn State Fayette.

On Sunday, PSU Mont Alto hosted Senior Day for Clay Kocsis as the team honored him prior to its dual with Pitt-Bradford. Kocsis stepped up a weight class and earned an injury forfeit in the 184-pound division.

Chris Lloyd, Jake Sechrist and Kraig Freeman each were the recipients of forfeit wins for the Lions. Brandon Jackson dominated his opponent in the 141-pound weight class pinning Aaron Smith in 14 seconds. Alex Gallaher and Grant Shughart earned PSU Mont Alto 12 points as each pinned their respective opponents. A back-and-forth matchup occurred in the 174-pound weight class as PSU Mont Alto's Jared Adam edged out Pitt-Bradford's freshman Matt Moonan.

The dual win improves Penn State Mont Alto to 9-8 on the season. The Lions' next competition is in less than a week as they travel to Collegeville, Pa. to compete in the Ursinus College Tri-Meet on Feb. 18.
