Mont Alto Wrestling Opens Season at King of the Mont Tournament

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto wrestling team opened the 2017-18 season by hosting the King of the Mont Wrestling Tournament. Overall, 48 wrestlers competed in the MAC Gymnasium from either PSU Mont Alto, Penn State Fayette, Kent State Tuscarawas, Pitt-Bradford, Alderson Broaddus and the Edinboro University wrestling club.

Wrestlers competed in a minimum of two matches in a round-robin style bracket. In the 125-pound weight class Dan Bertram (Seaford, N.Y. / Seaford) went 1-2 as he scored a victory over John Fedorek from Penn State Fayette. At 149 pounds, Brandon Jackson (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) went 0-3 and Carlos Vera (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) made his colligate debut going 1-1 with an injury default victory.

Sophomore Grant Shughart (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) was the only other Mont Alto wrestler to earn a victory doing so at 174 pounds. Shughert went 1-2 overall. 

The Nittany Lions are next in action at the Casperson Classic, which is hosted by Southern Virginia on Saturday, November 11. Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.
