Wrestling Goes 2-2 at its Home Quad

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto wrestling team hosted a Quad in the MAC gym on Saturday and went 2-2 against Slippery Rock (WC), Penn State Fayette, the University of Maryland (WC), and Thaddeus Stevens.

Mont Alto picked up wins against Penn State Fayette, 39-10, and Thaddeus Stevens, 42-10, and dropped decisions to Slippery Rock, 31-21, and the University of Maryland, 34-24.

Against Penn State Fayette

In the 141-pound weight class Mason Blank (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Stasburg) earned the 8-6 decision over Arik Nickelson. Douglas Bittner and Daniel Bertram (Seaford, N.Y. / Seaford) had highly contested affair at 125-pounds, but Bertram fell by a major decision, 14-4.

Against Thaddeus Stevens

The highlights for Mont Alto included Bryce Palamar (Smithsburg, Md. / Williamsport) scoring the 8-2 decision in the 149-pound weight class over Joe Walton. Aric Smoker (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) put the Nittany Lions up 36-12 after his 9-2 win at 174.

Against Slippery Rock

Bertram and Dominick Hyatt (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chmabersburg Area) won by forfeits at 125 and 133. Mason Blank (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Stasburg) pinned Daniel Reconnu in 1:55 to put PSUMA up 18-0. Slippery Rock's Zach Fisher got them on the board against Mitchell Krcelic (Huntington Beach, Ca. / St. Mary's International School) at 157. The Rock also earned points at 165 via a decision, and pins at 174 and 184 put them within two points of the Lions at 21-19. However, the Rock earned forfeits in the two final weight classes for the 31-21 win.

Against the University of Maryland

Mason Blank (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Stasburg) finished his afternoon 4-0 with a pin in 2:40 against Bailey Konold and Bryce Palamar (Smithsburg, Md. / Williamsport) also earned a pin over the Terps Ohsung Kwon in 4:14 to earn the Nittany Lions points.

Mont Alto returns to action on Sunday, November 18 in the McDaniel Terror Duals.
