Wrestling Finishes Day at Southern Virginia Duals

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Penn State Mont Alto wrestling program took part in the Southern Virginia Duals on Saturday with the team falling in both of its matches, 45-6 to McDaniel College and 35-10 to Southern Virginia.

The Nittany Lions started the day off McDaniel College. Conner Herron (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) was the only wrestler to collect points for PSUMA. Herron pinned his opponent at the 133-pound weight class in 3:59.

Mont Alto then dropped the next eight weight classes. Jack Coulston (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) had a competitive bout at 141 pounds. The match went all three round with Coulston falling by a close 5-3 decision. 

Against Southern Virginia, Mont Alto saw two different wrestlers earn points against the Knights. Mason Blank (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) earned a victory at 125 pounds, while Jack Coulston (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) picked up his team four points with a victory of his own. He earned a 12-3 decision over the Knights Aldair Morgan. There were other close bouts including Nick Kostyak (Carlisle, Pa. / Boling Springs) who came out on the losing end of a 7-3 decision.

The Nittany Lions will have two weeks to train before they wrestle again on Friday, December 6 when they compete in the Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
