UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Following a two-assist performance that sparked a Mont Alto victory last week, Penn State Mont Alto sophomore Kara Newell (Shippensburg, pa. / Shippensburg) was honored as the Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the first time during her career.

Newell distributed a pair of beautiful crosses to help her team to the 5-2 come-from-behind victory over Central Penn on Sept. 4. She whipped in the first one off the right wing that turned into an easy tap-in goal, while her other assist was provided on a free kick effort after earning a foul in an advantageous part of the field.

The sophomore was voted to the USCAA All-American Honorable Mention Team a season ago and has totaled 12 points thus far in her collegiate career.

Mont Alto (1-2) is on the road this afternoon at Christendom with the match beginning at 4 p.m.
