The Women's Volleyball team has played six matches in the past nine days and won every last one of them. Undefeated in the PSUAC, Mont Alto Volleyball is on a record-breaking winning streak. The team has overpowered every team in the PSUAC except for Penn State Dubois (home October 2nd) and Penn State Brandywine who they will face for the first time for a double-header on the road October 17th.
"In my three years here, we have made long undefeated runs, but never twelve straight wins in twenty calendar days. Last year, we completed a 15-1 season, making a seven match consecutive run, and in 2009, the team completed a 14-2 season, with a seven match undefeated run as well. This is the most intense, match-packed season on the Mont Alto schedule in several years," Mont Alto head coach Drue Hoffman explained. This year the team will be playing more than ten games outside of the PSUAC by the end of the season.
Mont Alto hosted Schuylkill on September 19th for a quick 3-0 match. The next five matches the team traveled to three different schools winning four out of the five matches in three games. Penn College has been the only team in the PSUAC that has taken Mont Alto into five games before taking the win. "Penn College rode the energy off their win over Penn State York easily into the second set and put Mont Alto down 0-2 in the match (25-27 and 20-25). Mont Alto struggled to get the service game going but in the third set the conditioning of our players began to show as the hitting and defense began to wear Penn College down. The fourth set saw a return of Mont Alto aggression on the court," Coach Hoffman commented on the Penn College match.
Monday night the ladies traveled to Christendom College for a rematch after beating them on September 11th on our home court. Mont Alto pulled away the win beating them in three games again. Only two out of the next eight games are home before playoffs begin October 23rd.
"The team is showing that their hard work, conditioning work and dedication during the preseason and early season is paying off," Hoffman said. "The team is well conditioned and having only 9 team members, with only 32 calendar days left and another 12 matches, they will need to continue working hard and pushing to get the job done. Potentially, the toughest part of the season is ahead of the team, with four more DIII matches ahead and potentially three playoff matches, the team will be hard pressed to find energy and determination to finish the season strong!
Mont Alto is now 13-4 overall (10-0 in PSUAC). Their next match is Saturday October 2nd at home vs. Penn State Dubois after the Penn State York vs. Dubois match.
