Mont Alto Volleyball Digs Pink

Mont Alto Volleyball Digs Pink

It was a pink out on October 13th as Penn State Mont Alto's Women's Volleyball team played host to the women from Penn State Brandywine.  The entire crowd was decked in pink to support the Mont Alto women's annual Dig Pink match for Breast Cancer Awareness.  With the fans in such high spirits for a good cause, and to watch their women's volleyball team continue their successful season, the gym echoed the roar of the fans.

The first set saw Mont Alto take a strong 9-2 lead forcing Brandywine to use an early timeout.  Brandywine came back with a quick attack to make it 10-6, but Mont Alto would not let up, as they surged on to a 25-15 first set win.

The second set proved a challenge for both squads as they fought tooth and nail to the end.  With 15 ties and 6 lead changes throughout the set neither team would quit.  Back and forth they each sent hard spikes and quick willed blocks the entire set.  Finally, with the set teetering ever so slightly to Mont Alto's side, the Mont Alto women took it 26-24.

The Mont Alto women would start the third set again with a force, taking the lead 9-2, and never looking back.  With a few service aces from Mont Alto's Katie Wantz, some kills from Brianne Rice, and the powerful cheers from the home crowd, the Mont Alto women would come out of the match victorious winning the third set 25-17.

Mont Alto's Lauren Chapman led all players with 28 assists, Brianne Rice with 15 kills, and Katie Wantz added 15 digs and 5 service aces, while Brandywine's Alexandra Vitale led both teams in digs with 21.

The ladies will travel to Brandywine for the first round of playoffs on October 18th at 7:00 p.m.
