Volleyball brings home first win of the season

Penn State Mont Alto Women's Volleyball team went 1-1 this past weekend. They picked up their first win of the season against Penn State New Kensington, 3-0.  The have been battling through tough games since the beginning of the season and are happy to get their first three points while also sweeping the match.

"I am very excited about our first conference win," Head Coach Jenn Stremmel comments.
"I think this will definitely help build confidence for our team. The girls were able to go on runs and kept fighting even when the score was tight in the second set."

Gretchen Robinson and Ashlyn Blank both had four aces. Chandler Coldsmith led the defense with 19 digs. Blank also led the offense with 12 kills. Katrina Oyler tallied 16 assists.

In the second match of the day, Mont Alto fell 0-3 to a very competitive Penn State Fayette team.  Fayette is undefeated in conference play so far, winning all their games 3-0.  Mont Alto fought hard all three sets.

"We knew this would be a tough match coming into it. We were hoping we could carry the momentum from our win into this game, but Fayette came out swinging and made very little mistakes," Stremmel added.

Coldsmith led the team again with 11 digs.  Oyler added 10 assists.  Blank contributed seven kills and Chai Kline recorded two blocks.

Penn State Mont Alto will travel to Christendom College on October 4th for a 7pm match.
