Volleyball falls to Hood College

Penn State Mont Alto's volleyball team traveled to Hood College on Monday for a non-conference match.  They fought hard but were not able to pick up the win, falling 0-3 (25-12, 25-23, 26-24).

Hood College started the first set with a 9-0 lead and did not give Mont Alto a chance to come back. But in the second and third sets, Mont Alto was right with Hood, who is an experienced division III team.  In the second set, Mont Alto was ahead 18-13 before Hood made a comeback to win 25-23.  The same happened in the third set when Mont Alto led right up until the last couple points.  It was a19-12 match before Hood tied it at 22-22 and again at 24-24.  Hood scored the final two points to end the match with a 26-24 win.

"It was a great volleyball match to watch as it was back and forth with long volleys," stated Head Coach Jenn Stremmel.  "With a team consisting of mostly freshman, I was very happy with that I saw on the court.  The girls really stepped up and embraced the challenges I asked of them."

The team was led by Sarah Bortner who had 11 kills and 17 digs.  Lacie Mosteller added 32 assists; Katie Grahm had 9 Kills and 17 digs while Melissa Orlandini recorded 11 kills and six digs.

"Sarah, Melissa and Katie did well offensively and Sarah and Katie also led the team defensively.  The team is very excited to see Hood again at home in October.  They accepted the loss as a learning experience and enjoyed playing a competitive match, " Coach Stremmel added.
