Volleyball drops first PSUAC match to Brandywine

Volleyball drops first PSUAC match to Brandywine

It was an exciting night at the Mont Alto gym when Penn State Brandywine's volleyball team came to town on Tuesday.  Both teams gave it their all and fought until the end.  Brandywine came out on top winning three out of the five sets, giving Mont Alto their first conference loss of the season.  The set scores were 20-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17 and 13-15.

Mont Alto had not played in a five set match until Tuesday night when they came across a talented Brandywine team.  The ladies showed a lot of heart and determination throughout each game.  The play was back and forth during the match and kept everyone on the edge of their seats. When it came down to the final set, Mont Alto started out with the lead but Brandywine was able to come back and hang on to a 15-13 win.

Mont Alto's Sarah Bortner continues to impress in her freshman season; adding 15 kills and 30 digs.  Katie Graham followed with 24 digs and Lacie Mosteller added an outstanding 30 assists.

The team played well together on offense and defensive but a few errors changed the outcome of the game.

"In our first five set match, the girls saw what it was like to play a competitive team that matched our skill level.  Even with an injury in the third set, the team was able to fight back to tie the sets 2-2 in the fourth and gain a good starting lead in the fifth," commented Coach Stremmel.  "Unfortunately some errors allowed them to tie the fifth set 12-12 and then win 13-15."

"I was proud of how the girls continued to fight throughout the match but we need to work on our ability to finish sets when we are up," Coach Stremmel added.

Mont Alto will travel to Penn State Beaver on Saturday, September 28th to play Beaver and New Kensington at 2p.m. and 4p.m.
