Volleyball defeats Greater Allegheny and drops to Fayette

Sunday was another day filled with volleyball for Mont Alto as they traveled to Penn State Fayette for matches against Fayette and Greater Allegheny.  They finished the day with one win and one loss, ending the weekend with a 3-1 record.

In the match against Greater Allegheny, Mont Alto won 3-0 with scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-14.  Sarah Bortner led the lady lions with a notable 19 kills and 10 digs.  While Lacie Mosteller continued to lead the team in assists with 32.  Aylssa Booth and Katie Graham each added 11 and nine digs, respectively.

"We came out with a good first match against Greater Allegheny that really pumped up the girls for the next game," Coach Stremmel stated.

Mont Alto was so close to having a perfect weekend but Fayette was not going to let that happen.  Penn State Fayette took three straight sets against Mont Alto who fell 22-15, 15-25 and 21-25 in their second conference loss of the season.

"The team went into our match against Fayette with a competitive edge, as I told them that Fayette is always a solid team.  We held with them and had some leads in the first set but unfortunately could not pull it out," Coach Stremmel adds.  "In the second set, we let our frustrations get the best of us and didn't play our usual game.  After feeling some fatigue from the long weekend, we fell behind in the third, were able to fight back towards the end but it just wasn't enough to take a set from Fayette."

Mosteller added 19 more assists and Bortner had 12 kills.

Coach Stremmel comments, "We need to continue to learn how to let our frustrations go and play a more positive game, it's something we work on a lot in practice and are certainly improving on."

Mont Alto travels to Penn State York for their next match on Tuesday, October 1st at 7:00 p.m.
