Volleyball defeats Beaver and makes PSUAC semi-final match

The Mont Alto volleyball team will play in the PSUAC semi-final game on Friday night at Rec Hall.  Mont Alto was able to win the first round of playoffs over Penn State Beaver in a 3-1 match.  After losing the first set of the match, 27-29, they came back at won the next three without letting Beaver back in it.  The scores of the last sets were 25-13, 25-20 and 25-11.

"With our setter sitting out with an injury, we had to overcome the confusion of a new line up that we were only able to practice the night before this game," Head Coach Stremmel comments. "I think it took us a little while to settle in to the new rotations and unfortunately that cost us the first set. However, I am very proud of the girls' ability to communicate with each other and really help each other out on the court to pull out the win," adds Coach Jenn Stremmel.

Mont Alto was led by Sarah Bortner who recorded a team high in three categories.  She had 14 kills, 16 digs and 21 assists.  Melissa Orlandini also played a huge part in the team's victory with eight kills, 11 digs and four blocks, while Alyssa Booth added 10 digs, 10 assists and six kills. Katie Graham had four service aces, nine digs and six kills.

"Sarah really stepped up as our setter tonight and led the offense very effectively.  In addition, Alyssa, Melissa, and Hannah all were playing in different positions at times and adjusted really well."

Mont Alto will play in the PSUAC semi-final round on Friday in Rec Hall at University Park against Brandywine at 5:00 p.m.
