Women’s Volleyball finishes their season at PSUAC Semi-Finals

The Penn State Mont Alto Women's Volleyball team traveled to University Park on Friday to face Penn State Brandywine in the PSUAC semi-final game.  Mont Alto played a tough match and gave it their all but fell short of their goal, losing 1-3 in four very close sets.

Mont Alto started the match off with a 25-18 win; before Brandywine would go on to win the next three.  In the second set, Brandywine was able to edge out Mont alto 28-26 in a close set to tie it up 1-1.  But Mont Alto was not able to regain the lead, before falling 18-25 and 23-25 in the last two sets.

"We came out strong in the first set and played to our ability pulling a solid 25-18 win," Head Coach Jenn Stremmel comments. "After fighting back from a pretty big hole in the second, we just couldn't pull out the second set losing 26-28.  After that loss it was tough for us to get on any positive runs in the third and fourth set."

Lacie Mosteller, PSUAC Second team All-Conference,  led the team with 39 assists while Sarah Bortner, PSUAC First team All-Conference,  added 18 kills and 13 digs.  Katie Graham, PSUAC First team All-Conference, had 16 digs and Melissa Orlandini, the PSUAC Newcomer of the Year and First team All-Conference, added 12.  Orlandini also had 10 kills and Dori Kozain had nine.

"I couldn't be more proud of what our team has accomplished this season. I kept reminding the girls that with a team comprised of mostly freshman, just three months ago, they did not know each other," Coach Stremmel adds.  "It is truly amazing how they came together as a team and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch it happen. They are an amazing group both on and off the court.  I foresee great things in our future together and am already looking forward to what they will accomplish in the off season preparing for next year."

Mont Alto finished their season with a 19-6 overall record and 13-4 in the PSUAC.
