#2 In The Country....

#2 In The Country....

First year Head Coach Greg Suders took his Mont Alto's Women's Volleyball team into this weekend ranked 4th in the country, but that wasn't good enough for them.  Knowing they had 4 total matches on the road this weekend, the team knew they had a chance to do something special.

Not only were these good opportunities to move up the national rankings, but also to take a commanding conference lead in the PSUAC.

Heading first to Hazleton to take on the host team in Penn State Hazleton, and Penn State Lehigh Valley the girls didn't take any chances with close games.  With a total team effort they were able to put down Lehigh Valley in 3 sets with a total of 75-13 to start the weekend.

Hazleton was up next, but quickly to be put away as Mont Alto kept their winning streak going with some impressive numbers.   Alexis Smith put up 11 digs, while fellow freshman Becca Stott added 10 kills.  PSUAC Volleyball player of the week Kelsey Wetzel put down 13 kills of her own, and Jenny Halterman put up 27 assists.

The next day was much the same for Mont Alto, as they started the day defeating Wilkes-Barre.  They started out strong in the first set even though Wilkes-Barre hung around, scoring 21 points.  The ball seemed to never hit the ground however, as the girls finished the match with 32 digs.  Lauren Slater and Alexis Smith added 7 each, and Alyssa Booth kept 8 off of the floor.

The last match of the weekend was against host school Penn State Scranton.  Behind Halterman's 45 assists, Mont Alto took another match, 3 sets to 0.

By the end of the weekend Mont Alto had not only accomplished their goal of staying undefeated in the conference, but also did not lose a single set.  On top of that the team came out of the weekend moving up to #2 in the country.
