Volleyball Opens the Season with an Epic Back And Forth Win Over Wilson College

Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto women's volleyball hosted crosstown rival Wilson College in a non-conference matchup this evening in its season opener. The Lions took the Phoenix the distance, 3-2 by scores of 25-13, 24-26, 21-25, 21-25, 15-12.

For the match, the Lions had 41 kills against 37 errors on 173 attempts for a .023 attacking percentage. Meanwhile, Wilson College had 18 kills against 23 errors on 143 attempts.

Senior Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) picked up where she left off a season ago and led the Lions with 13 kills, while fellow senior Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) was outstanding up the middle with eight kills, four digs, while also tallying a career-high three aces.

Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan) and Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) tallied 51 and 29 digs, respectively. Katelyn Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) put forth a career-high 39 assists in the Mont Alto victory.

The Lions have now defeated NCAA Division III Wilson College in consecutive years and will look to build off the win. Mont Alto will next host Christendom College on Tuesday, September 12 with an 8 p.m. start.
