Mont Alto, Pa. – On Saturday, September 21 the Penn State Mont volleyball team rolled past PSUAC opponent PSU Hazleton in straight sets (25-16, 25-12, and 25-5) in a Salute to the Military Match.

Prior to the beginning of the match, the Penn State Mont Alto Department of Athletics and the women's volleyball team honored all the branches of the United States Military in a tribute to our veterans and the men and women currently serving within the military. The pregame ceremony included the presentation of the colors by the United States Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and Mont Alto Instructor in Music and Arts Fred Davison performed the national anthem, and the volleyball team designated Walter Harbaugh as an honorary captain. Harbaugh is a Franklin County native who turns 101-years old in December of this year and is a veteran of the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Director of Athletics Staci Brennan, Mont Alto student-veteran Chris Seery of the U.S. Air Force, and head coach Randy Hood presented Walter with a Mont Alto game day jersey as part of the pregame festivities.

The Mont Alto volleyball team dominated from start to finish with a season-high 25 aces in the victory. Katelyn Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) produced a career-high 15 aces and also had 25 assists as the main setter for the Lions.  Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) had five kills, one ace and six digs. Libero Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan) had a team-high seven kills and Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) led Mont Alto with nine kills.

Penn State Mont Alto improved to 3-1 overall and earned its first conference win of the season. The Lions return to action on Tuesday, September 26 in a road match with NCAA Division III opponent Hood College. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
