Fredrick, Md. – The Penn State Mont Alto volleyball team were unable to get into a rhythm and fell to NCAA Division III opponent Hood College in straight sets (25-15, 25-8, 25-10) on Tuesday Night.

In the first set, Mont Alto pulled within 12-11 after a kill by Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle), but Hood went on a 8-1 run that was finally stopped by a Hannah Geesaman (Shippensburg, Pa. / St. Maria Goretti) kill. Overall, Mont Alto had six kills on 31 total attacks.

Hood had a 52 percent kill rate and dominated much of the second set, but Mont Alto managed points via an officials ruling, a Blazers service error, Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) (2), Hannah Geesaman (Shippensburg, Pa. / St. Maria Goretti), and Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) (3).

Mont Alto briefly trailed 3-4 in the third set, but another big run by the Blazers gave them the straight set sweep. Stump led the Lions with five kills followed by Smith who added four. Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan) had a team-high 10 digs.

The Lions fall to 3-2 overall on the season, but will look to rebound quickly returning to PSUAC play tomorrow when it host Penn State York in the MAC Gym at 7 p.m.
