Lions Sweep PSUAC Competition in Sunday’s Quad

York, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto volleyball competed in another quad match on Sunday afternoon and the Lions earned a four set win over Penn State Greater Allegheny and a thrilling five set win over PSU Beaver.

The Lions have now won five-straight matches and own the second best record in the PSUAC at 8-2 overall and 6-1 in conference action.

Mont Alto picked up a 25-17, 25-16, 26-28, 25-7 victory over Greater Allegheny. Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) and Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) were the top hitters for Mont Alto combining for 22 kills. Shaffer also came up with a big block for the Lions and Stump had a game-high 11 digs.

Squaring off against crosstown rival PSU Beaver in a back-and-forth match, Mont Alto came away with a 3-2 set win. The Lions used a balanced offensive attack with Katelyn Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) stepping up for five kills to go along with a game-high 38 assists.  Libero Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchannan) and Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) came up with several crucial digs as Meyers had 16 to go along with Stump's 24.

Penn State Mont Alto is off until Thursday, October 5 when it travels to Brandywine in a highly anticipated matchup between the current top-two teams in the conference. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. with a live video feed expected to be available on the Mont Alto volleyball schedule webpage.
