Mont Alto Volleyball Earns 3-0 Senior Night Victory

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto volleyball team honored it's four seniors in a pregame ceremony with the team dealing Penn State Schuylkill a three-set defeat by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-8. Tuesday's victory along with a PSU Beaver four-set win over PSU DuBois later in the evening clinched Mont Alto the No. 2 seed in the PSUAC Tournament. The Nittany Lions (15-5, 13-13 PSUAC) will receive a bye through Friday's quarterfinal round and will face either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in a Saturday PSUAC semifinal matchup.

Hannah Geesaman (Shippensburg, Pa. / St. Maria Goretti), Hannah Kauffman (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area), Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) and Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) were honored for their outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom prior to Tuesday's match with Schuylkill.

Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) had a game-high nine kills with Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) and Hannah Kauffman (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area), each contributing another four kills apiece. The first game of the night was the most competitive at 25-15 with Mont Alto cruising in it's second and third set victories for it's sixth-straight win.

Mont Alto also had 11 service aces with Courtney Matthews (Shippensburg, Pa. / Big Spring) contributing a season-high of four aces. Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) had three aces and a block with setter Katelyn Muse(Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) totaling 24 assists.

PSUAC Tournament No. 1 seed Penn State Brandywine will host Saturday's semifinal matchup with game times scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The two semifinal winners will battle in the Rec Hall in State College, Pa. for the PSUAC title on Tuesday, October 31.
