Courtney Stump and Katie Muse Named All-Americans by the USCAA

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Penn State Mont Alto's Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) and Katie Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) were named All-Americans by the United States Colligate Athletic Association (USCAA) as announced by the governing body at their awards banquet at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The season-ending award winners were announced on Friday of last week following the first day of competition in the USCAA Fall Championship Week event.

Both players were honored as All-Americans for the first time in their respective careers with Stump being voted onto the First Team and Muse appearing on the Second Team.

Stump, a senior outside hitter, led Mont Alto in kills with 238 and her 3.13 kills per set ranked her sixth in the USCAA. She had arguably her best statistical game of the season in the five-set victory over Penn State Beaver on Sept. 16. Stump finished the match with a double-double as she had 17 kills and 17 digs to go along with two service aces. Her 312 total digs ranked her third in the PSUAC and 19th at the national level. The decorated senior likely closes out her collegiate career with 562 kills, 92 service aces, and 787 digs.

Muse finished her junior season tied for 24th in the USCAA in total service aces with 47 and her 537 assists was third in the PSUAC. The setter tailed 6.80 assists per set, which ranked second in the conference and. She had a season-high 44 assists in the 3-2 win against Penn State Brandywine as well as a career-high 12 aces against Penn State Scranton on September 30.

Representing the Penn State Mont Alto volleyball team on the USCAA National All-Academic Team was junior Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) and sophomore Shayna Harbaugh (Chambersburg, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim). Both were honored with the accolade after having 24 or more credits on their USCAA transcripts with each of their cumulative grade point averages being 3.50 or greater. Mont Alto concluded their season in the PSUAC Quarterfinals on October 24 in a hard fought four-set match. The Lions finished the 2018 season with a 12-13 overall record and were 4-6 in the PSUAC.
