WYE MILLS, Md. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team traveled to Chesapeake College on Tuesday afternoon and battled the Shipjacks in a high scoring affair. Chesapeake managed the 22-20 non-conference win as they used a 12-run fifth inning to just barely edge the Lions.

How it Happened

Up 3-0, McClure cleared the bases with a double as the team hit around the lineup within the inning. The Shipjacks responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
  • Mont Alto continued to connect at the plate in the second inning with Jeremiah Younker (Hagerstown, Md. / Williamsport) plating a pair of runs with a double. Chayse Fisher (Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) slapped an a RBI single and Hunter Martin (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) put his team up 10-3 with a solo home run. PSUMA scored another run within the inning on a McClure triple to center field.

  • Chesapeake went up 22-17 scoring runs off of freshman Spencer Seaman (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) who tossed 2.2 innings in relief.
  • The Nittany Lions nearly mounted the comeback in the top of the seventh as a Brady Topper (Littlestown, Md. / Littlestown) single plated a pair of runs and a Younker fielders choice cut the deficit to 22-20. Neither team scored again.
