MONT ATLO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team won the rubber match in their season series with Penn State DuBois on Monday, April 15. In a battle of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the PSUAC West, Mont Alto held on for the 5-4 win.

Senior Nick Jacoby (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) made his second start of the season and carried a one-hitter into the eighth inning. He ended up only giving up two hits as well as two runs, while striking out a season-best six hitters. He now owns a record of 2-1 as Chance McClure (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) escaped a ninth inning jam to earn the save.

Mont Alto got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning when Brady Topper (Littlestown, Pa. / Littlestown) blasted a solo home run. The offense continued to string hits together and built a 3-0 lead within the frame when Chayse Fisher (Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) drove in Younker and Hunter Martin (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown).

Topper's RBI double to deep right center field upped the lead to 4-0 an inning later. He scored what turned out to be the game-winning run when Jeremiah Younker (Hagerstown, Md. / Williamsport) singled up the middle in the very next at-bat.

Penn State DuBois scored two runs in the eighth inning forcing a Mont Alto pitching change as AJ Millar (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) recorded the final out of the inning with a strikeout. Millar went out for the top of the ninth and struck out the first batter of the frame, but got into a bases-loaded jam in-which two runs scored on a Garrett Brown single. McClure educed a Penn State DuBois (20-9, 10-2 PSUAC) fly out for the final out of the game.

Mont Alto (21-14, 9-3 PSUAC) returns to action tomorrow when its hosts Juniata College in a nine-inning contest beginning at 3 p.m.
