Huston, Kissel earn POTW honors

Following its first Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference title since the 2017 season, two Penn State Mont Alto baseball players were recognized by the conference office for their achievements over the weekend. Hayden Kissel earned the hitter of the week and Matt Huston was named the pitcher of the week.

Hayden Kissel continued his strong season over the weekend with five hits in 16 at-bats. Kissel's 3 for 4 performance in the elimination game against Penn State Schuylkill helped propel the team further in the tournament. Kissel registered a RBI double, scoring leadoff hitter Jared Pine in the top of 7th inning which cut the deficit to one run. Penn State Mont Alto would later win that elimination game by a final of 6-5. Kissel played a perfect second base all weekend for Penn State Mont Alto, converting on all 19 of his fielding chances.

Matt Huston pitched the final inning and a third following Trystan Housman's start in game one of the championship against Penn State DuBois. Huston went on to earn the save in that contest as Penn State Mont Alto forced the if necessary game, winning by a final of 4-2. Penn State Mont Alto Head Coach Shawn Kissel turned to Huston to start game two and he did not disappoint. Huston stymied the Penn State DuBois lineup, going seven innings and allowing just three hits. The top five batters in the Penn State DuBois lineup went a combined 0 for 15 in game two. By earning the win in game two, Huston improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season.
