MONT ALTO, Pa. - Penn State Mont Alto Cheerleading has named Katie Hutzell (Williamsport, Md. / Williamsport HS) its January Cheerleader of the Month. The award is based on nominations from the team and given to a cheerleader who stands out in her efforts for the month.

Hutzell, a freshman base, was nominated for her dedication to her team and sport and her spirit for supporting her teammates.

"Katie brings knowledge and experience to our team, and she is a very strong base, which makes her teammates who are new to flying feel safe. She really helps build their confidence," said head coach Jennifer Deinlein. "But what also makes her stand out is her fierce love of her sport and her team. Her teammates have said that she never gives up on anything, whether it's a stunt that's struggling or a teammate having a tough day."

The Mont Alto cheerleaders cheer at all home men's and women's basketball games and will conclude the regular season Friday, Feb. 9 with a PSUAC doubleheader vs. local rival Penn State York. Game time for the women's game is 6 p.m. with the men tipping off at 8 p.m.
