MONT ALTO, Pa. – Kassie Stermer (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) and Brittney Wilson (St. Thomas, Pa. / James Buchanan) share the February Cheerleader of the Month honors for the Penn State Mont Alto cheerleading squad. The award is given based on nominations from team members and is for standout efforts over the course of the month.

Stermer, a sophomore who serves as stunt captain, and Wilson, a senior base/back and team captain, were both nominated by their teammates for their dedication and ability to be versatile and move out of their comfort zones.

"Kass and Brittney were both willing to fly for our last few games, partly as a 'senior sendoff' and partly to help the team as our main flyer was out with an illness," said head coach Jennifer Deinlein. "It meant overcoming fears – it's a lot different being the one in the air! – but they wanted to do it to help the team. They are also both strong leaders on their team and their teammates really look up to them.

"I'm also really happy they were both nominated, because Brittney is graduating and Kass will be transferring to Penn State-Harrisburg next year," continued Deinlein. "They earned this award by their own merits, but it is a great sendoff for them and for Kaitlyn Mumma (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan), the January Cheerleader of the Month), who will be at main campus next year. They have done so much to help this team grow and in just two years have really left a mark on the program."

This is the second Cheerleader of the Month honor for both. Wilson was the December 2017 Cheerleader of the Month and Stermer took home the title in February 2018.

The Penn State Mont Alto cheerleaders concluded the regular season alongside the men's basketball team's run through the PSUAC playoffs. The team will be holding open gyms and fundraisers throughout the spring in preparation for the 2019-20 season.
