Penn State York Downs Mont Alto 66-58

YORK, Pa. – Penn State York handed the PSU Mont Alto men's basketball team it's first loss in nearly two months as they took the 66-58 decision on Saturday. It was a battle of the No. 4 and No. 7 ranked teams within the latest USCAA Coaches Poll. The loss was also Mont Alto's first within the conference as they dropped to 14-3 overall and 11-1 within the PSUAC.

Inside the Box Score

  • Mont Alto featured the inside and outside combination of John Teague (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) and Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg). Flemister had a team-high 15 points, while adding seven rebounds and four assits. Teague scored 14 and grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Freshman guard Darrius Bush (Martinsburg, W.Va. / Spring Mills) chipped in 10 points as PSUMA outrebounded PSU York by a 34-30 margin.
  • Three different players scored 10 or more points for York with Michael Coleman leading the way with 17 points.

How it Happened

  • It was a tale of two halves for Mont Alto who shot nearly 50 percent (14-of-29) in the first half compared to just 28.6 percent in the second half. The PSUAC rivals kept each other in check before a Cameron Williams (Inwood, W.Va. / Musselman) trey put Mont Alto up 25-16 with 5:30 left in the half. PSUMA continued to grind and went into the halftime break with a 33-27 lead as Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg) nailed a jumper with just two seconds remaining.
  • PSU York began the second half on a mini 6-0 run, which tied the score at 33 points apiece. They continued what turned out to be a 16-4 run to make it 43-37 to force a PSUMA timeout with 13:01 remaining.
  • Mont Alto recovered chipping away at the deficit and trailed 52-49 after a Darrius Bush (Martinsburg, W.Va. / Spring Mills) layup that was assisted by Flemister.
  • York played sound defense down the final seven or so minutes of the game A Marcus Roper trey made it 58-56 with a 1:39 left on the clock, but the home team finished on a 10-2 run.

Up next, Mont Alto returns home and will host Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m.
